primer seat not centered on Classic turrent press

Post by scooter217 »

I have a classic turrent press and when i try to seat a primer, i have to pull back on the arm slightly as the primer seat is not centered. Is there an adjustment that i can do to fix this? See picture below.

I have that problem sometimes. It has been the shell holder or the brass. Some brass will sit farther back in some shell holders. When a primer does not start to seat easily, I just pull it back about a 1/16 of an inch. If this is a big problem, sort your brass by headstamp, and see how each fits. Try different make shell holders to see if one works better with different brass.

Based on farerjim's reply and the bit of powder on the Auto Index Clamp, you might check to make sure that the slot on the ram and shell holder are free from even one little stick of that powder or spent primer debris. The lube on the ram attracts and traps this stuff. Again, back to Jim's comments, try another shell holder whether it be the right one or not, just to check the fit.

Also look at the primer cup and make sure it is still round and has not become deformed by contact with the shell holder.

It is because you are posting a url not a image. Image references end in a standard image format; jpg, gif, png, etc.

I downloaded your image from Google, resized and cropped it (it was huge, typical of what phones deliver now), and attached it to your OP.
