I didn't buy mine, it came with the APP press. The screw being to long to begin with was the issue for me, it wouldn't tighten to the die. I didn't realize it was to long until I snugged er' pretty tight, tight enough to see where the screw was making a mark on the outside of the other lock ring. That's how I sorta buggered up the cheap phillips head screw, it's pretty small. After removing the screw and filing a couple thousandths off the end it worked well enough to tighten the ring to the die. I guess it bothered me because it would be a twelve mile round trip to town to pick up a small package of hex head screws (if I could find any), and I don't think it's to much to ask for to have an item work as it's supposed to. Even a screw.

Agreed. There's a reason the automotive industry stopped using slotted screws 40 years ago and 98% of Phillips screws 20 years ago.

The 2020 catalog I have calls them " Lock Ring Eliminator Bushings ". They are a Breech Lock Bushing with the Lock Ring built into them, so once the lock ring portion is clamped down, the die cannot be removed from the bushing.

The clamping lock ring with the spline (# 90566 - Ultimate Lock Ring)

Something to keep in mind is that the standard Breech Lock Bushings are steel. The Ultimate Lock Ring, and the Lock Ring Eliminator Bushings are anodized Aluminum. Be careful with the threads, because they WILL wear down as they are removed and reinserted because of how Lee machined the threads.

100%

After nearly 10K cycles, my APP threads are 1/2 stripped.

My experience:

That phillips head screw is horrible and I replaced it after I used it once.

Also - The breech lock bushing kept backing out as I was sizing 9mm brass on my APP. Yea, I tightened the crap out of it.

Same here ... hence the half stripped threads on the machine AND the bushing. Dressed my bushing threads with a thread file but the machine threads are a different story all together.

Trying to see if it'll make through this batch first. I have it set up at work because we were so slow but I have some work and haven't finished. Been doing the flash holes lately but when that's done they'll all go through the swager.

Here are my threads after about 5k cycles. Doesn't look like this press will have a long life span.

klr, I hope you send this info to Lee. I would detail how it has been used; swagging, decapping, etc.
