For those of us here in the US, we have a long holiday weekend which typically heralds in the summer months with all the outdoor activities that bring in. I suspect that those that bought us this opportunity to enjoy and express our freedoms through this weekend and beyond are often forgotten. I saw this cartoon and thought it said it all.

Until I spent some time recently with my son I couldn't wrap my head around Pappy Boyington.

This is why we can enjoy the hamburgers, hotdogs and beer this weekend. A time to remember those we loved and lost because they Served us to the bitter end. Vietnam took 7 of my schoolmates and shipmates. My hamburger will served with some tears.

I remember seeing this at the Landing anniversary last year. I think they had a bunch of volunteers make them in the sand and then the tide erased them which was supposed to happen.
