PPM Rotor Tension Adjustment

Post by Ranch Dog »

I posted this on another forum so I thought I would post it here as well.

I was setting up one of my Lee Perfect Powder measures and decided to demonstrate the rotor tension adjustment that I use. The instructions call for 16 ounce/inches which is a little light for powders like BL-C(2), H335 or many pistol powders.

I was dropping the 3.10 cc of BL-C(2) into a 300 Savage case placed against the drop tube so that any spill outside the case would be visible on the white paper. I personally use 26 ounce/inches after the lapping I perform as I drop into a Safety Scale pan which contains the little bit that makes it through. I do use a torque screwdriver to set the Rotor Tension Screw.

You can never go wrong by adding a torque screwdriver and learning how to use it. Kind of silly to have one just for adjusting the PPM rotor but you will soon find many other needs. One good one is the various screws on your rifle. Figure out what is "tight" enough and make notes. That way you never over adjust things. Scope ring screws are another.

The Utica TS-100 is a common tool that runs about $50 ~ $60 new but there are outfits that offer reconditioned used ones for about half that. Is is but one…
