New Quick trim........ Not impressed

Post by barracudadave67 »

I went and got some of the new quick trim dies, along with the deluxe crank. Trying it on some 45/70. all it does for me is sharpen the edge of the case, and turn the lip inward. I have to crank, and crank til the cows come home to make to length. Maybe its me, but this thing doesn't work. I have it mounted on a Lee C press which is mounted very sturdily on my bench. I am following the detructions to a tee. Whats the trick to these,???.

Any one have some pointers, that might help, ????.

I ended up using my trusty ole Lyman Acculine sizer. all 60 cases came out at 2.099-2.100.

I took off the chamfering and deburring cutters and mine worked much better.

I will stick with the Lee Case Length Gauge & Trimmers. Great system. If I need a special length of the long run, I special order a trimmer. If the need is to be short lived, I use a Lyman bench trimmer. Really don't want all the debris that trimming produces on my press even though the Quick Trim makes an attempt to catch it.

barracudadave67 , I'm no help with this issue. Like RD I'm a fan of Lee Case Length trimmers. It sounds like FarmerJim has the best response thus far.

Thanks for the replys guys. I am turning the crank clockwise. I don't think the destructions say which way to turn it, but I would have to go down in basement, and look.

NOT impressed with the quick trim - at all! Like Mike, sticking with the Lee Case Length Gauge & Trimmers, which I have for all BUT 223/308. And will prob get the Length Gauge & Trimmers for these.

I had the same issue. Removed the chamfering blades and the trim is perfect. However, my wife got me the new Frankford Arsenal Platinum case trim and prep center, and I love it. I can trim, ID chamf, OD chamf and either remove the military crimp or clean the primer pocket; approximately 200 pc per hour.

Got my eye on the wet tumbler ;)

I've heard you can't trim straight walled cases on this FA unit.. Is that true? I shoot a lot of M1 Carbine and some 45/70.

Yes, that is correct. Only bottle necked cartridges. I still use the quick trim for my .30 carbine.
