Last of my wheel weights

Post by reomack »

Melted down all of my remaining wheel weights today. Pretty good yield with about 65 lbs of lead and maybe 25 lbs of zinc, steel and junk. Pickings just keep getting slimmer though and the WW yield keeps getting smaller with every batch I melt. Darned tree huggers anyway.

So what are your plans? You going to buy lead or go back to jacketed?

There are plenty of people out there selling range lead. I get 60 pounds in a MFRB for from $65 to $75 shipped. You can get some linotype or superhard to increase the hardness. I had one guy selling a 25 pound Ingot in a SFRB for $23 shipped. Unfortunately He no longer sells lead.

I sort them before I bring them home from work (free) but go through them again before smelt. I usually get a 2/3 yield by weight.
