I plan to start with 9 mm, then if all goes well, expand to 45 ACP and 38 special /357 magnum. I believe Mrs. Santa Claus is going to give me a Lee breechlock reloading kit for Christmas.

1960 the Breech Lock kits are pretty darn good kits. I used the Breech Lock Challenger
set up for a long time & had zero problems. Best of luck & keep us posted.

I've never seen an 8ga in person.

Me neither, just an old pic of my dad & his dad, his dad was holding the monster.
Thing looked to be about 6ft long, double barrel, they both called it an 8ga
goose gun. Was said to have been my great grand dads ???

There's generally no BS here.

Generally I approve of BSing. Swapping info, exchanging techniques, this tool vs that that reloading gadget and bragging about one process over another is how we learn. The BS stops when applying the "BS". Sifting thru the information gathered and reloading starts. That how many of us learned to "perfect" their handloading procedure. What works for one may not for another but it sure is fun BSing about it!

Of course my BS is better that your BS!

Good kit to get started with. It was my first one and I still use the press and powder measure. The Lee manual is also a good reference. Follow the kit instructions to the letter and watch the beam on the balance scale stays free and perfectly centred. It has a tendency to swing too close to the dampening magnets and stick. I reload all the pistol calibres you mentioned as well as 45 Colt. What 9mm pistol do you use?

I have a Smith and Wesson SD9VE and plan to get either a baby Glock or an M and P Shield for my wife.

I have no opinion on the baby Glock but do recommend the Shield 9.

Can't tell you about the Shield but what I hear from folks who use them is they love them.
The regular ( full size ) M & P are straight up sweet pistols IMHO. Also, I haven't had any in for repair or problems, just .normal cleanings.

Can't say anything bad about Glocks, I'm a fan...

The SD9, Well it's the lowest price self stuffer in SW line. The original SD was the one that
got SW sued by Glock because of the take down features.
The triggers are terrible to most everyone but can be improved or replaced.
Nothing fancy about them, they eat everything I ever threw at them.
Accuracy is not match grade but workable.

So, Shield or Glock ??? Long answer ( made even longer ) I really don't think you can go wrong with either. I would find a range that rents firearms, rent each & burn a box of ammo
See which you like best, feels best, your most comfortable with, then buy it, better yet,
Get both..

The SD9VE was my first modern handgun and it suited my purpose at the time of purchase.
