Hello to All from Kentucky

Post by cheech »

Hi All. I'm a newb here and recently purchased a Lee Load Master. I already own the Lee Classic Cast single stage press as well as the Classic Turret press. I'm a long time reloader having owned and used various presses including RCBS, Hornady, and Forster. Anyway, my bench is totally RED with me also owning a MEC 600 Jr. Mk V. I look forward to learning a few tips and tricks with the LLM as it's all new to me.

Welcome to the forum. I'm a long time LM user, struggled with the design for years. I thought to throw "mods" at it would cure the issues I had, but in the end, I went back to the basics of the instructions, and everything came together. I own four now and load a dozen cartridges across them; both pistol and rifle. I use all the features of the press; case, primer, and bullet feeders.

To someone getting started, I recommend that you:
  • Have a rock-solid bench
  • Set the press up per the instructions.
  • Cycle it empty until you understand exactly what each station is doing, when it does it, and how it relates to the next station.
  • Condition your brass before it hits the press. Bevel and uniform your primer pockets and never let dirty brass near it.
  • Now, start a single case and let it cycle completely through the press. If the loaded ammo is good to go, let two go through.
  • If the press hangs up, don't try to force movement through the ram. There are features that allow you to remove the case. Figure out what happened before you attempt to move forward.
  • Repeat this with three cases, adding an additional case through five.
The press will get smoother with cycles, but it should be smooth enough as a new press to move through the rotations to allow rotation and allow reloading. Do not assume that Lee set it up, go through the instructions completely.

If you need help, holler. Welcome to the forum!
