Prepped 200 218 Bee cases; primer pockets beveled & uniformed, and flash-holes uniformed & deburred. Pondering whether to anneal it this morning before I put the steel pins to it.

Actually did it Monday and got to the rage yesterday to test.

7.62x54R

All my manuals seem to be of the opinion that .308 bullets are fine in these guns so I decided to see what my Moison (short rifle) had to say. Bullet was a147gr FMJ by Winchester that I've had for a long time. (I recently found some 30-06 loaded with them and date in'91). I load ten rounds each using listed minimum loads from Hodgdon's 2018 manual/magazine of H4895 and Varget. At 50 yards 5 of each stayed inside 3 inches with no signs of instability. Moving out to 100 yards things were a little different. With the H4895 3 stayed in the center of the 12" bull while the two called flyers open the group up to 6" :( , still nice round holes. All I can say about the Varget loads is they stayed on the bull. So some more playing with the bullet and H4895. I've got a lot of surplus I can shoot for fun but it's all east European and corrosive and it means the work of a thorough strip and clean and in the short rifles the stuff beats me harder than I like for a long range session.

Also had to throw 50 303 cases in the recycle bin, but that's another story.

Actually the loads in question were done in May of '91. When I got my 303 I was also able to get a couple of bandoleers of Greek, boxer primed, non-corrosive ammo. Last weekend I came across 40 reloads left in a box of 50. Sierra 150gr 303 soft points, box is at home and I don't remember powder or charge. Took them to the range with me yesterday. Of the 40 36 of them showed neck splitting on being fired, I suspect that the brass did not age well over the intervening 27 years. So when I can I'll grab some new 303 brass. Don't need much as it's one of the war horses I like to take to the range and sit among all the black rifles.

I just put together a batch of 20 cartridges of .308 to check my rifle´s zero for my upcoming reindeer hunt. I use Lee Target Loader - Zero Error for resizing and inside reaming. For bullet seating I use regular Classic Lee Loader die and seater as well as a Shell Head Alignment Chamber from a 7x57mm MRC Improved Loader (a Lee derivative):
Norma cases
Norma 200 powder - 40.9 grs.
Moeller MJG brass bullets - 121 grs./BC 0.424
OAL - 2.8"
Vel. - 2949 (measured from 20" barrel)
Pressure - 53315 psi (according to Quick Load)
Zero 200 yds - 1.6" high at 100

I did about 30 or so 30-06. I only shoot target, so these were loaded with 45.2 gr. 4064, 168 gr. Nosler CC and with a COL of 3.30" with no crimp.

These perform well out of the 1971 vintage Rem 700. I just had the Walker trigger removed and substituted with a Timney nickel. This is a great trigger - 3.0 pound pull and zero creep! Just as advertised.

Way to go on the trigger. I no longer have a 700, but replaced the trigger on my 600 with a Timney, same experience.

My new two hole Lee .312" mold came in today as well as 300BLK dies so I might cast a handful and load some 7.62X39 and 300BLK if I get time to test the mold.

300BLK will be LAM2 sized to .310 with GC over A5574 which is an odd choice but I have no other use for this powder. The A5574 is the only Accurate powder I own and I got it in a trade bundle.

7.62X39 will be as cast pending mold performance with GC over (I forgot).....4198 or 4895 or 4227 I can't remember what I have. I need some A1680.
