Henry 45

Post by Steve »

Traded one of my Rem 700 in 223 for a new Henry Big Boy in 45 Colt. Got it to the range yesterday to try it out. I just sat in a chair in front of the reloading shack and shot at clay bird pieces and other targets of opertunity out as far as 100 yards. That rifle is a real pleasure to shoot, with 250 gr cast RNFP at about 900 fps. (loaded by a trusted friend). Wish I would have got one of these rifles a long time ago, it fits me perfect and I won't change a thing on it.

There were 3 of us playing with the 45 colts. 1 Rossi, 1 Winchester 94, and my Henry. We had a great time.

Love the 45 Colt, I had a Marlin 1894S but replaced it with a Rossi 92. I push mine pretty hard as a whitetail & hog rifle. Had the Big Bore Steel been around a few years ago, I would probably have bought one.

I would like to try some hotter loads RD. May I ask what bullet and the velocity you use for your hog load?

The bullet of is of my design, a TLC454-290-RF sized at .452", and pushed with 25.5-grains of Lil'Gun at 1760 FPS and 35.5k PSI.

This is my current pride and joy. I am going to put a sling on it so I can carry it when using the walker do to the missing foot of mine. I kind of miss that thing when it felt good.

Yer right fellows, it's a nice looking rifle. The only problem with that is all the guns I have get used so it will get scratched and dinged no doubt. I don't abuse them, but I sure do use them.

It seems like I can shoot a good looking gun better than an old beater, probably not so, but it just seems that way.
