Re: Out of State Hunter Killed While On Texas Hog Hunt
Well that sux .
I do see 3 things wrong with this . Always know/identify your target . Don't look like your game ,the example we were given was don't wear white specifically shoes with white soles ,sleeves or shirts.
What were any of them thinking trying to flush a hog out of the brush in the dark ? That's dumber than 17 yo with a fast car ,3 beers and girlfriend in Daisy Dukes and a tube top.

Sunset was about 10 minutes prior so things should have been pretty well illuminated especially in this area of Texas. As a contrast the picture I posted of my Savage 340 feral hog was taken 20 minutes after sunset.

Too wound up, Too quick on the trigger. He will have to live with this for the rest of his life. How many times have you seen movement and then a person appears?

Yeap. If not a person; livestock, deer or other animals that are not to be shot. It sounds like the Maverick County Sheriff went very easy on him but I'm sure that fellow is pretty busy doing battle with the cartels.farmerjim wrote:Too wound up, Too quick on the trigger. Not to get political but I'm sure the offender has his punishment living every day with the memory and knowledge of his actions. Might sound liberal but I'm not sure I'd prosecute more than a customary fine for his actual mistake (without regard to finality). Victim blaming is often shunned but I'll say the deceased made at least one if not two mistakes depending on perspective.

Good points. Might be in the shooter's defense as I don't care how good of friends they were, I have no doubt the family of the deceased will pursue him in a civil suit.GasGuzzler wrote:Don't look like game and make sure those around you know where you are or at least your intent.

Not good just not good. My best friend when I was 10 lost his dad to a similar situation, elderly man deer hunting saw some movement and opened fire.

I could name an old internet gun guy that's likely to do it soon but that would be in bad taste.
