I have a 308 Israeli Mauser (Yes it does exist and is original)

What crest does it have???

Do not have any right now but will take some the next time I get it out of the safe.
There is no crest on it as it was scrubbed before the barrel change.

The history is they were bought for the kubutz people and sent to England to be rebarreled in 308 as it was the most available cartridge.
The only barrels available at the time were 1-14 twist so they were used.
Have seen several that were pristine and lusted after one but never found one
They were originally K98 Chech Mausers and now the only info on the receiver is DOH , 7.62.

I bought 2 of them as "fixer uppers" from Century International Arms.
Stocks were toast on both so manufactured stocks for both.
One the barrel was good on and the other had to be changed asap as the pitting was too bad to even trying to shoot.
Had it rebarreled to 7x57MM Mauser
The good one shoots far better than I can.

I Originally made full length Manlicher stocks.
Thought that might be the problem as to it not shooting worth beans so cut it back.
After I got it to shoot have been sorry ever since.
Still keep the cut off piece on the wall in the shop to remind me of my mistake and to not make the same twice.

All that describing and now I just want pics even more. I only recently discovered the world of milsurp bolt action rifles and it seems I'm at least ten years too late to the party. I am sick of hearing stories how they were in barrels at shops for a hundred bucks or so with a free case of ammo. I can't even find 8mm milsurp hardly unless it's the hangfire Persian special stuff. I found a No.1 SMLE and there isn't surplus ammo for that anywhere now. But then again the only .30-06 surplus I've found is the Korean corrosive stuff for my Garand so even that's drying up on the market. I'm just always late to the party.

If you can get the corrosive ammo, pull the bullets, save them and the powder. Reprime the cases and load them back up with the same powder and bullets. I did that with 1500 EW 43 rounds. Made me apreciate a collet puller. I never shoot corrosive in my M1.

It was supposed to say 99 bucks typo it was j&g had a sale recently but they are back to 129.00 now shipping will bring it up a tad but still. Good prices soon they will be gone. We will all we had gotten them as we do with so many others in the past

I've bought one of the Chinese clones of the M44 but I'm really trying to find an M38 as I don't like the spike up front and I keep reading that even if I remove it then the accuracy gets worse. I've already bought two spam cans of ammo for it though. I try to slurp it up when it's on sale.

Several years ago due to a divorce I received a number of guns for $1.00 each.
Seems an irate wife had taken a chop saw to the stocks on them.
After the divorce dust settled I sold them back to him for $1.00 each.
He insisted I keep several.
One of them was a M44 Mosin.
He had removed the bayonet and since the stock was in pieces I made a new sporter stock for it.
In the picture it still has the original sights.
I have since removed the rear sight and added a pistol scope (sorta a scout scope configuration).
It will hold a 3 inch group at 200 yards using the 314299 or better yet the 316299 cast bullet.
So don't beleive all you hear about removing the bayonet and it not shooting worth a dime.
Anyway here are a couple of pics of it during the build.
The Stock is Maple (common old furniture grade) and the tip is Rosewood.
