Several rifles

Post by RBHarter »

Everybody loves a new rifle .

I assembled a bbl'd action into an old Fajin stock creating a delightful 358 Win on a magnum cut Santa Barbara 98 action. Aside from induced feeding quirks it is a delight mostly . I found that backed down to 2100 fps with a 220 gr GC RNFP that a 1"100 yd group was possible . Next up loose the single stage long pull trigger . It will even hit with the 42.5 I4350 load at 260 yd on an 8" gong. I had started with nominal and loads and the 8.5 lbs of rifle did little to tame the probably 2500 fps 220s . I'm happy the, rifle is happy and game should go out wagging.

A little 96'Mauser came to me all dolled up as a 257 Roberts . What a joy! The 7# rifle barely moves on discharge shoots 3 loads under an inch and a 2800 fps 100 gr Sierra Pro Hunter with a 2" over 100 yd sight in is only 4" low at 260 yd . Still inside the deer hunting hold on and squeeze windows.
Nothing to change on this gem except maybe the cock on closing bolt .

The 45 ACP High Point carbine proved a fun gun to get into a competitive game of Whack a Patty . 50 yd min of cow patty is plenty good enough for it . 100 yd groups were 8-10" with 45-200 and 454424 . Being a 50 yd rifle and cartridge I'm content .

I sent most of the remaining 45 Colts with the 262 gr 452 252 down range to free up that brass . Dismal results with that bullet I think it goes nose over base when it's supersonic . The 454424 shoots better in the 92' anyway .

I shot the 6.8 SPCII AR some it yielded the 2x3 oval group expected with the mass of .278 sized and checked cast on hand before I received the 280 dia sizer . Plenty good enough for range proficiency work . Ok for 6pyd hogs too I guess .

Well I had it all figured out then this tornado ripped through a feed lot .........

I really haven't a clue . Probably the 358 , 6.8 and the 325 30 WCF . It's rumored there's another 92' 45 Colts waiting for me in SA.
