I love shooting steel silhouettes with cast bullets and this week I had my first opportunity of the year to do so. Shooting this match, my rifle of choice was a new to me Winchester 38-55, The beautiful commemorative Legendary Frontiersmen model. The rifle has a round 24" barrel, which is a bit lighter than the octagon Marlin CB model I previously used. Ammo was handloaded with two different powders and some Ranch Dog cast bullets. I used a lighter charge of powder and a 250 gr. cast, plain base bullet on the closer targets, chickens @ 50M and pigs @ 100M. For the longer range animals I used the same bullet but gas checked and a stiffer load for the 150M turkeys and 200M rams.
When I ordered this mould from RD, I specified that he could remove the gas check base from three of the cavities, which he did and I am really happy with this mould. Now every cast gives me three each of pb and gc bullets. Thanks for that option Michael.
Here's the rifle
