Thanks, guys.

daboone - I did not keep the o-rings. I like the firm sudden stop I get when ring meets press.

Thanks for the tip with the rcbs dies. I put something soft in there.

Edit: I took a look and my RCBS lock ring has a piece of plastic between the set screw and the threads.

I modified some Lee lock rings for use as "emergency" rings for my Co-Ax. I used 6-32 and 8-32 threads to leave a bit more "meat" of soft aluminum. I also removed the O rings because the dies w/rings wouldn't fit in the slot...

There are set screws available that have some sort of composite on their point just for this purpose.

The proper set screws to use when setting against threads is nylon tipped set screws. Easy and designed for the job... https://www.mcmaster.com/nylon-tip-set-screws Brass tipped work also, but I prefer nylon... https://www.mcmaster.com/brass-tip-set-screws

IIRC there are other (not reloading) uses for O-ring type locking of nuts. I have seen nylon rings on nuts (bottoms. not ny-lok). They work by putting an upward force on the nut, forcing the threads "together" and locking them in place. Lee's O-ring lock nuts have always worked for me, many times just finger tight. Rings/dies stay where I put them...

That's it no Valentines Day card for you.
