Henry 22

Got it ordered today. And I remember what it was like again waiting on Christmas when I was a kid. I'm really looking forward to playing with this thing.

My Marlin just walked out the door with Chet and I got a pocket full of money that is headed for my friendly Henry dealer. He may have the rifle in tomorrow, if not I will have to wait until Monday. I am going to pick up assorted 22 LR rounds to shoot and find the Henrys preferred round. He has a lot of 22 in stock at reasonable prices, I checked that out yesterday.

I got the new henry 22 this morning. It shoots as good as it looks. It will feed CCI shorts ok but not Remington. That's ok Rem short will go on the don't use list for this rifle. Tried a half dozen different LR brands they all shot and fed ok.

I was just shooting at clods of dirt so I can't tell you which ammo shoots the straightest yet. It was easy picking off a soup can size clod at 50 yards with the Skinner peep sight. I was really glad to find I can still use a peep sight. Buckhorn sights have gotten pretty tough for my eyes to use.

This coming week end I plan on shooting paper so I can see what the best round for it is and to set the sights as close as possible.

I had to pay 425 plus tax. to get it out the door. Worth every penny.

My Grandsons H001 22 does. Still going strong.

My 45 colt Big Boy has over a thousand full loads through it and the brass isn't bulging a bit. Plus I didn't have to do anything to it right out of the box to smooth it out. But after cleaning at 500 rounds it was smoother than before I cleaned it.

After the little bit of shooting I got to do yesterday with the new Henry I decided to try the Rem shorts in it again. Feeds them just fine today. Maybe a bur or some sticky oil got worn off the follower. Either way I am happy.

I probably should have split this out into a topic about the Henry 22. Might get to it sooner or later but I am going to get it moved, with a short shadow here, to the "Rifle Discussion" forum.

I was going to wait to clean this carbine after I shot it good and dirty, but I couldn't resist tearing it apart last night.

What I found in it was just enough lube to prevent it from rusting in long time storage and 2 very tiny little burs loose in the action. My guess is one of those burs was probably why the shorts I tried first would not feed.

I will report back on accuracy after I get it on paper.

I have the 22 mares leg and its a joy silky smooth 22. I split this so it will get more attention from 22 henry shooter.
