I understand the plastic stock at that price point but does it HAVE to be tan?

Ruger must need sales. When the rifle was introduced and I called the exact words were "never happen". I do like it though. It would give me something to use my 5-round Mini-30 magazines with. I've been meaning to get my 77/44 to the consignment rack...

I'm not to crazy about the plastic stock and still undecided on the receiver if I like it or not. The Ruger American is becoming a popular rifle in my area especially in 450 Bushmaster, selling like hot cakes. I love my Ruger M77 MKII 7.62x39 BUT it'll be interesting to see how well the Ruger American sell.

If I'm not mistaken, this particular American Ranch Rifle in 7.62x39mm is the ONLY of the series that comes with a METAL magazine. Of course, it's Ruger's own mini-30 magazine, but at least it's metal.

Everything I've read about the one I wanted to get - the .300BLK - with a proprietary plastic rotary mag - seems to be bad news.

Why couldn't the 5.56NATO and .300BLK models have used the mini-14 metal mags at least? Now that would've been cool.

My 2 cents on this!

There's a 7.62X39 on Ruger Forum for $459 or so.

Looks like you can get the American Ranch 7.62x39 on GunBroker for $420 to $435.

I have been considering selling my Zastava Mini Mauser 7.62x39 because I have not been shooting it. If I think 7.62x39, I grab the Savage 10FCM Scout. It is funny how one rifle/cartridge combo will be favored over the other. It is probably more about the fit, the Zastava is a small rifle (one worry just looking at the Ruger Ranch), and I'm not, and either is the Savage. I honestly don't need to sling bullets out to 300 yards but the Savage does it very well and honestly, I've never tried it with the Zastava.

I bought the Savage 11 Scout, a 308 Win, but I favor my 10FCM 308 Win over it. One thing I don't like with the 11 is the tactical look and the tan stock (Ruger American :( ). The 11 along with the Zastava and my Ruger 77/44 were supposed to go to my FFL and be put on GunBroker six weeks ago, but I've been too busy to make the drive. I got to do that because they were supposed to reimburse the funds for the two Winchester M94 Timber Scouts I bought!

I haven't shot my Mini 30 this year, but I could say that with most of my rifles, but I enjoy shooting the 10FCM more than I do it.

I just happened to get a Zastava 7.62X39 a couple months ago.

It's a little different.
