I don't think I have put this on here yet. If I did, sorry about the repeat.
I weigh the powder charges with a Lyman DPM, put the cases in a loading block waiting to go to the press. I visually check to make sure the powder appears to be the same in all the cases before I place the bullet on any of them.
Hope what I have makes sense, if not please let me know.
This is the way I load 30-06 with the Load-Master.
1. Full length resize on a heavy single stage press.
2. Run the cases through the case cleaner to remove the lube.
The picture below shows how I use the Load-Master.
Station 1 is a 45 ACP die. (Any size die will work here.)
Station 3 is 30-06 dead length bullet seating die.
Station 4 is regular Lee 30-06 bullet seating die with the seating plug inserted upside down.
This is used to bump old military ball ammo down to the proper OAL for feeding in the M1 Garand.
The ogave on old military ball bullets (the stuff I have) is not uniform and won’t seat uniformly with the standard bullet seating plug. Station 5 is a factory crimp die, used on ammo for the M1.
Preload the ram using dies in stations 1 and 3. (This helps OAL consistency.)
3. For M1 ammo set a charged case on station 3.
Die in station 3 has OAL length set about .100 long.
Die in station 4 finishes seating the bullet.
Station 5 crimps the round.
4. For hunting ammo with premium bullets set a charged case on station 3.
Die in station 3 has OAL length set to finished length.
Die in station 4 is set long so it doesn’t touch the bullet.
Station 5 die is backed out a couple turns when no crimp is desired. (For bolt action rifle.)
