Re: What Bullet Casting Did You Do Today?
I got a couple of as new but pre-owned Lee moulds last week and had to run them .
The double 457-340F is a little fussy but I didn't do the usual heat cycle thing with it so it will come around I think . I got 25 keepers in 25 pours with 1 gr between cavities and 1 cavity noticably more particular than the other about it's pour technique . Tuning should fix that .
The 458-405 HB single delivered junk for 4 pours ,nose wrinkles for 4 more then a string of 27 near perfect bullets . 35 pours 27 keepers .
I revisited a C309-130 R2 single . Good grief that mould is a bear to keep hot . If I had a lathe that would be on its way to a larger HP ...... Good thing I don't have a lathe .

Re: What Bullet Casting Did You Do Today?
Put out a couple hundred 45/230s this AM. I have 500 ACP cases to load so a bit more time is needed before I can start. Takes time when you are using a two holer. they look pretty good, only put 4 back in the pot for the next session. Sure wish I had some more Unique but used most of it loading a thousand 9MMs. Need to go to my LGS.

Re: What Bullet Casting Did You Do Today?
New to me Lyman 454613 HB
This one is a tough mould to run . Not hot enough the base doesn't fill out around the pin . Too hot it frosts the grooves and wont fill there .
Based on ads written by someone that didn't cast any of them , it should have been a 45 Colts mould suitable for the .458 SAA Colts bbl pre-1920 at about 250 gr .
My alloy returned .453 diameter at 285-291 gr . I'm thinking it should make a nice paper patched light weight for 45-70 , not what I had in mind , but usable .

Re: What Bullet Casting Did You Do Today?
Once I had a flow going it wasn't to bad to keep it going . It was a little more going on than with the Lee self contained 458-405 HB . I was about 2 hours with warm up , pot heating and having dropped the base pin several times , once in a shock cooling bath , to pour about 120 and figure out what I was doing right and wrong .
