I am interested in them and having zero knowledge of them was wondering where to start?
Kit , Assembled , Parts rifle?
Caliber for a first one?
Who to buy from?

Have been making my own stocks for many years so the stock part does not intimidate me but the metal work does a little.
Would appreciate anyone's insight.

I've built 2 lyman great plains. Certainly nothing difficult with these kits. I built 1 traditions Hawkins. It was even simpler but it was a callback, not that it would make a difference. I just ordered a 1803 Harper's Ferry. I excited about this one but haven't seen it yet. I expect it's going to be a serious undertaking.
I've found Birchwood Casey's plum brown while easy to use/do has faded quite a bit. So I'll be looking for Mountail Lorial this time around to do the browning.
