I picked up a nice specimen in 30-30 . It features a butter knife bolt handle ,plain but adjustable peep sight and a 1-12 twist . I was in possession of 116 1950s vintage Winchester Western and Super X 150 and 170 gr silver tips to reach a baseline . 2 inches is good enough for me and certainly not bad for 60 yo ammo stored in who knows how.

I have at my disposal NOE 301618 paper patch and 311-230 fp and Lee 309 160 2R and 312-155 SP . Reports say that the 312 155 isn't a really great bullet even in its intended platform but to my joy they shot nearly as well as the factory ammo . I was pleasantly surprised that the 311-230 fp shot well also . It is intended for the 300 BO and have to seat quite deep to make action length. I didn't have any of the 309-160s available to try . This bbl is a natural for paper patch, 6 rounds of fairly tame loads moved from dust to 4 strips of confetti so the 301618 is a contender here in the need for a bullet. At 172 gr it is a good working solution of weight to case volume and short enough to cheat on the case capacity at maximum magazine length. Because it's paper patched softer alloys can be used and offset the lack of a meplat. A small HP is also a possibility. Next up load for Chrony and groups.

Sounds good! I'm digging the heck out of mine and can't wait for time to get it suited up with cast bullets. Once I get it fixed with the TLC311-170-RF, I ponder a unique, heavy weight design specifically for the "340" & hog hunting.

At 1.360 I was surprised that the 230 delivered round holes from the 12 twist.
I went to steal a link but it looks like it's been dumped completely. Look at me go ,not only do I have 1 off rare factory ammo in the collection but now I have a very rare single run mould made even more rare by it being a 2 GC ,2 PB 4 cavity. Both seen here with the Winchester 150 silver tip in a dummy and pulled from a misfire .

Here ya go this is the 230 in the Savage chamber . I think you may be able to see the touch on the front band . It comes in at 2.882 so it is strictly a single feed being .332 over Sierra's max OAL . Getting it out unfired requires it to be pushed out the mag well. 4831 or 4350 will get it super sonic but you can't get enough in the case to blow it up.
