Since joining a range, I have been thinking about buying a rifle specifically for target shooting at long longer distances. I want something that would be suitable for competition if I decide to proceed on that path. I have been intrigued by the reviews for the Ruger Precision Rifle, specifically in 6.5 Creedmoor caliber. It seems like a viable entry level gun for competition. The gun is also available in .380 and .243.

I am a reloader. I was wondering if anyone here has any thoughts about reloading 6.5 Creedmoor caliber or recommendations for going with a more widely available round.

I bet you meant .308 above not .380.

I have no clue but this site seams to be in love with the 6.5 and the Ruger rifle.

Lol. Yes. I'm doing a run of .380 so I have it on my mind.

If I were going out to pick a long range rifle (for smokeless) it would be one of the 6.5mm cartridges that's available and the Creedmore would be high if not at the top of the list. My current reach out and touch something rifle is a 6.5mm-06 with a heavy barrel built on a commercial Mauser action. It handle bullets from 85 to 140 grain doing its best with the higher weight but with the 85 gr Sierra JHP it a more than adequate as a varmint rifle out to 3 or 4 hundred yards.

I'm a fan of the 6.5mm bore and have been for a long time.

I bought one in 6.5 Creedmore. I am in love with this rifle. At 100 yards, I am grouping shots the size of a dime with ease. I am looking forward to getting it out to the 300 yard range.

I have researched the rifle and caliber both are reported to be great platforms. The Ruger may be hard to find unless you are willing to pay a premium. I am a savage fan and would go that direction. 6.5 looks great.

Are you talking about the Ruger bolt action 6.5 that kinda looks like an AR? 2 guys are on a waiting list for theirs but I thought they weren't even available yet. They claimed up to a year wait.

This is the one I bought. Put a Leupold 20x50 scope on it.
