I've been real remiss in working with my critter getters the last five years or so, I tend to wander from project to project. With a terrible raccoon problem at my protein feeders I decided to get the Marlin 1894CLs tuned up and back in the line up starting with the 32-20 Win.
I'm lucky enough to have all three of these rifles in the series; a 218 Bee, 25-20 Win, and 32-20 Win. The photo is of the later but you would be hard to tell the difference in the three without looking at the muzzle or roll stamps.
Not to much to the reloading. I'm using my TLC313-115-RF bullet, bullets that cast a bit soft with my 95/5 alloy. They sit right at 13 BHN so I targeted a chamber pressure of 25.0 to 27.5 KPSI using 13.6-grains of H110. It all worked out well, with the rifle and bullet producing 1960 FPS.
As far as the actual handloading goes, I used my Classic Turret with the .88 cc Auto Disk. Nothing to it. Loaded 50 in no time.
The weather has been downright awful the last week with a frontal system running out of steam along our part of the Gulf Coast. Winds have been very high and gusting. I wanted to sight the rifle in at 100 yards and got it done but will reshoot it in calm winds sooner than later.
Had my first issue with the Labradar. In the wind the unit was not picking up the rifle report for the trigger. I switched to doppler, constantly active, and it worked great. The only difference is that you have to look at where the radar beam acquired the bullet and make the muzzle correction like you would a normal chronograph. No problem with that as my TMT software handles it and in the screenshots below you can see that it was registering the departing bullet 20 feet out from the muzzle. All the data follows as screenshots.
Now here is the what is generating the need for a little 32-20 Win "wet" work. A durn coon will sit up on the spout of a protein feeder and shovel 50# out on to the ground in minutes for the benefit of his or her clan.
It has been dark as a well out there but thanks to the stalled front the cloud to cloud lightning has been impressive and providing near constant light. Knocked three out of four off the first feeder at 50 yards in two nights!
