Re: 35/30-30
While making the cartridge samples to send to Lee for the Factory Crimp Die, I quickly figured out that I'm going to be better off forming cases from 38-55 Win brass instead of 30-30 Win brass. The 35/30-30 uses the same cartridge length as the 30-30 Win, 2.039". If you start with that, you end up with a cartridge length of about 2.000" after forming. Expanding the neck from .308" to .358" eats up a lot of that length. Better to start with the 38-55 Win at 2.085" and end up with a cartridge just slightly over the 2.039"!
Our Post Office still has Saturday mail, so the samples are enroute to WI.

Off topic
I've lived here 12 years and the PO has never been open on Saturday but they deliver.
Too bad about the brass. Surely .30-30 is more common.

Re: 35/30-30
Actually not bad at all. I have just as much 38-55 Win brass as I do 30-30 Win, several thousand cases, but only one 38-55. I own five 30-30s so I'd rather rob from the 38-55.GasGuzzler wrote:Too bad about the brass. Surely .30-30 is more common.
When it was all said and done, the 38-55 Win delivers 1.2 cc more useful case capacity so 38-55 Win it will be.

Nice how that worked itself out. I love it when results push us into a better end result.

Yeap. The 30-30 brass that I formed went back through a 30-30 Win FL sizer and back to stock without issues.Ohio3Wheels wrote:I take it that's one pass through the FL sizer and fire form?

Re: 35/30-30
Quick turn by JES on the 35/30-30, received it yesterday! Now I need to get busy! I will get the barrel drilled & tapped for the Redfield IER mount and start on refinishing the stock set.
Oh... bought the NOE 360-230-RF (that I designed ), it was on a .358 Sale NOE is having.
