Tough as hell loosing one like her, especially one that has been rescued. All ours now (4 dogs and 2 cats), and 4-5 past, were rescues of some sort or another. Our saddest current sack is a small black Belgian Malinois. Son #4 and buddy were changing a flat tire when she came up and tried, and lost, trying to catch a car going 70 mph. They both agreed that they would have put her down had either of them had a sidearm at the time. She lost teeth, an eye, broke her jaw, shoulder, ribs, and got a hernia. Jaw was wired shut for weeks and all she could do was suck watered down canned food thru a small gap. She was a true train wreck and basket case. That was about 4 years ago, and now she is as healthy as a horse. She was hooked to the kid until he left for college. Now she will come lay her head in my lap (THAT took awhile!). Will be heartbroken when her time comes.

Thanks for sharing Millie's story.

Millie knew who she trusted. She knew when you carried her it was time let you go. She was safe.

RD, you read my comment on your RR site - just thinking about how those of us who live our lives surrounded by dogs (and other beasts) feel so much happier with them around.

In fact, my goofy brindle whippet/pit bull/anatolian shepherd mix Wolfgang is snoozing on my hip as I'm writing this note.
He and Honeybee, our terrier mutt blend, also resident "Killer Rabbit" like from Monty Python, just stole the bone he was chewing on before he passed out.

Now there's a battle going on!

I hope to hear from you about your interest in helping out in some way with all those dogs you mentioned about, affected by the recent hurricanes.

Take care

Adam

Thanks, Adam. I will let you know, plan on giving a hand at the Adoption Center on Tuesday and will offer a report.
