Drum lapping

Post by Tim Stapp »

After lapping the first drum to the measure, do you lap the second drum to the measure? Does it change the relationship of the first drum to the measure?

While I have two Auto Drum Measures, I'm wondering what is the best way to lap, if needed? Do I need to purchase a separate measure for each caliber that I load and lap a drum to the individual measure?

What do others do?

Never had any problems with my AD that required lapping.
Now, my PPM was a different story. Lapping took care of
99% of the leakage problem.

I'm not sure. Lapping a drum to a powder measure chamber is "custom fitting" and another drum may not fit exactly.

Thank you both for confirming my line of thinking. Glad that I have two Auto Drums and a Pro Auto Disk.

I just used the kit on a Deluxe Perfect Powder Measure, it was simple I used some pasted from all the tubes except the 2 largest grit ones and worked down to an almost near factory mirrored finishes.

Even though this is an older thread I have just started using a Lee Classic press with the Auto Drum powder drop. I did clean everything prior to use and had just a little leakage. Looking on youtube while this forum was down I watch a video by the fix it channel on chucking the drum onto a power drill and using fine sandpaper on a flat stick (paint stirrer ) gently sanding the drum. I did all of my drums and so far no leakage. All that's needed is to sand out the grooves to a smooth finish.
