One of my bucket list rifles!

Post by Ranch Dog »

Just put a rifle that has been on my life long bucket list into service! A Remington 600 chambered in 35 Remington.

There was only 3029 manufactured out of the 94K+ of these rifles made. After 50 years, no telling how many are actually still in service. I haven't been wanting to pay the money they demand but recently found one that met what I was looking for. This afternoon I replaced the problematic 600 trigger/safety with a Timney drop in which is a 700 improved and adjustable trigger/safety. I also replaced the original nylon rib and trigger guard with the Heritage Arms aluminum rib and and steel guard. The rifle weighs in at 6# flat. I will add a scope for load work and have a XS Ghost Ring on order but it is at least two months out. I will shoot my TLC359-190-RF cast bullet from the rifle.

Would you mind sharing, mine would be a Winchester 1894 in 30-30, pre 64.

I think two I would love at least one of would be an 1895 winchester lever action in 7.62x54. Or an actaul tula svd imported by kbi on the cheap for either I would never spend the kind of cash they go for now.

I do have a wonder lust for Winchesters. I fell for 1 at an auction.......Then they didn't sell the 86 in 40-65....Yea I could go for some of them and 92s as well.

The particular specimien I would like to find or build is a classic stylized rifle , think 60s-74' M700 BDL, 98' or M70 , white lines, ebony tip/grip cap . While a 458WM/Lott would be ok I would prefer it in 460 S&W . This leads to the custom build faster than I can write this. I won't chop up an already classic rifle.
The idea is that cases from 1.9 down to .770 w/bullets from 139 gr RB to 575 gr functionaly from GAP to 45-60. the 22'' bbl would be back bored to except an extended extra full 28ga wad lock choke . That allows for 410 shot shells.
The reasoning goes something like this , I don't need a 458 for anything I ever expect to hunt but there could be a hunt in western Canada or Alaska or moose/elk in the lower 48s grizzly country. I've read of standard 350gr 460 loads hitting 2800fps in 20'' bbls while the starting Ruger loads for 255s go 1300 in my 16'' 92' Ross-chester. Lastly I can not even count how many 100s of chucker,Hungarian partridges, sagehen and assorted grouse , rabbits and fur bearers have escaped unharmed because the 45 Colts or 357 would have exploded them and the 06' even more spectacularly. A badger at 17 ft comes to mind, fortunately after 20 min of stand off over the 12 ft boulder I was occupying it wandered off.
I'd of course take a 336 in 460 or 450 but only if it were adjusted/able to run the standard belted Mag brass.
