What would it take to convert to the 17 Remington?

Do you have a Contender or 223/222 ? A simple bbl swap w/ a Savage or Contender type platform.

I like my 222. A 55 gr Bator and 3 gr of Unique ,viola' 22 Mag on steriods. A 4 buck mould would crank out a bunch of BB cap class bullets.

Wiki says a .172 of 17-21 gr at 4k fps ,52k psi MAP parent case is the 222 but it can be made from 223,which has returned a 40-50% fail rate getting it to 222.

A Savage 340 is a good base and could be aquired cheaply in 222 and converted. Mine shoots an inch w/4 different factory loads and I expect it will do better if I shot it from sand bags and worked up a proper load for it.

With a lot of fiddling @ 4200fps with a 25grainer and @4500fps with a 20 grainer from a 26 inch barrel.
It is the most overbore cartridge i know of, with a 20 grain bullet it uses @ 22-23 grains of powder for full scream.
I dont load that hot, it eats barrel quick!
