I prefer to visit the range during the middle of the week vs the weekend.
Weekends are crowded and there are alot of people that flag everyone.
You can politely educate them....but I worry about the ones doing it while my back is turned
I'm fortunate enough to be a member of (and on the board of) a wonderful range about 15 minutes from my home.
Redwood Gun Club - Manila, California (on the peninsula across the Bay from Eureka).
We are open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the week is members only, and you must be a range safety officer to have a key. You go through a training course and shadow existing officers for a bit, then you volunteer for 5 shifts on a Saturday/Sunday over the course of a calendar year to get a key.
100 and 200 yard rifle ranges, 15 and 25 yard pistol ranges, 3 dynamic bays for Steel plate shooting, Cowboy action shooting, USPSA training, several local agencies use our range for training... It's nice!
I was out preparing to do some chrono work, waiting for another shooter to show (we must have two people on the range to shoot, for safety purposes), and took this video a couple weeks ago.
Great ranges here . Unfortunately they're all only 100 yd back stops . There's no tree line , unless you hunt pole lines or farms 100 yd may as well be a mile .
Most of time there's very little occupation of the ranges . I can shoot 100 yd at my mom's place but it's up a tree tunnel. It's all 20 miles one way .
