CFE BLK for 30 Carbine or 357 Magnum?

Post by alphalimafoxtrot »

Hello, friends - I am glad to see that the site is still active. Thanks, Ranch Dog!

I have been playing around with M1 Carbine reloading since picking up one of those little guns a few years ago. I just go right with the standard loading on once-fired Starline cases - H110 powder, generic 110 grain FMJ from NE Reloading. It is fun to shoot, and really simple to reload for.

I also use the H110 for 357 Magnum, of course, which I do run mostly in my 92 Rossi but also in my Security Six.

My question is this: would anyone here have the software or knowledge of powder burn rates to help me with this brain fart I've got going on? I have an unopened bottle of CFE BLK that is ultimately meant for a 300 BLK project upper. That's on the back burner.
I wonder if the CFE BLK might be an alternative slower burning powder that might work in heavier 357 Magnum or regular 110 grain 30 Carbine loads.

Again, just thought I'd ask if anyone has either considered this, or know anything about the practical application of CFE BLK in this case. I don't have any reloading data I can find regarding the possibility. I have read in some forums that CFE BLK does work in heavier magnum pistol rounds, like 44 or 500.

Thanks for your consideration!

If it worked really well it would be easier to find results of someone trying it. CFE-BLK is a few steps faster than H110.

That does seem logical - you'd expect that if it was good for other applications, we should have heard about them by now. In terms of speed, I thought it was the other way around - H110 is faster burning than CFE-BLK by a few clicks. H110 at 63, CFE-BLK at 71 on this particular speed scale.

I do appreciate anyone's tinkering with CFE BLK and finding out what works. Thanks guys!

OK back to my Kindergarten....it's a tough bunch.
